Washing Time

The women of Paran use the spring water to do the washing. Almost every community has different forms of clothing. In Paran the hats with the flowers on them is the only community I have seen so far that dresses like that.

Getting around.

I had the opportunity to visit the community of Paran which is located next to what will be the mine. They are worried about the effect the mine will have on the water supply as all the water to community and to their peach trees is supplied by springs. We are going to help them find alternative sources of water to help them expand the area of peach orchards. I was joined by Vladimir our water expert from Denver. I was the first person from the company to visit the community for almost a year as the relationship has not been very good up until now.

Making Adobe

While on the road to the mine we came upon these workers in Collary, Lacsanga who were making adobe bricks to use in constructing their houses. These bricks are made with soil, water and a little straw mixed in. The space between the bricks is filled with mud motar. Because these are larger than a regular brick they are called adobines. They are left to dry in the sun for about a month before they are used for building. Adobe houses are cheap since the adobines are made on site. The downside is that they do not withstand earthquakes although modern techniques help reduce the risk. Unfortuneatly these techniques are slow to be implemented.

Our Home for a While.

Here is our home for the next while, not sure how long. San Isidro, Lima, Peru. Three bedroom appartment. It is not the beach but confortable non the less. Vincent has lots of room to run and play and he also has a nanny to keep him busy. I am sure you will see more photographs of Vincent around the house over the coming months.

The Big Move

The family is off to Peru to become expats while Dad is working on the mine project. No telling how long it will be but we will make the best of it. Here is Vincent keeping himself entertained during the 9h flight from Toronto. Vincent is a seasoned traveller now so he took it all in stride.
